WIBISCO Celebrates National Biscuit Week
THE WEST INDIA Biscuit Company Limited (WIBISCO), widely known for their baked goods such as biscuits and cookies, copped the Caribbean Exporter of the Year Award last night at the 2nd Caribbean Exporter of the Year Awards.
Ms. Diane Payne, Commercial Manager, WIBISCO, noted the concept for National Biscuit Week was developed to give back to both the Barbadian community and staff, through a week long 105th anniversary celebration. She said, “Our activities include a church service, community Bajan biscuit sampling activities at various locations, and a celebrity cricket match, while internally our team will be treated to a delicious Bajan breakfast.”
However, one of the highlights of WIBISCO’S anniversary celebrations has been their visits to people born in 1910. Ms Payne explained, “For our 100th anniversary we presented Barbados’ centenarians with a gift and this year we were very pleased to revisit some of them who have now reached their 105th year to deliver gift baskets. She added, “We wanted to thank them for their long affiliation and loyalty to WIBISCO.”
During one of the presentations, a spritely Melville Williams of Lonesome Hill, St. Peter, who celebrated his 105thbirthday in February, was pleased the Company remembered him and even invited the WIBISCO presentation team to have breakfast with him.
The week begins on October 12th and will conclude on Octobe 18th with sampling sessions at some of the island’s churches.
